Na Maka 'o Liona - The Official District 50 Website Lions Pin!

Overview

The Hawaii Lions District 50 Website pin was created to reward those that have continually contributed content. Each member has volunteered their time and energy making this website THE WORLD CLASS Leader of any Lions website that you may find on the planet. This pin will be awarded based on a point scoring system (displayed below). The pin will be available the 3rd week of November '08. Each pin is made of hard enamel (most Lions pins are made that way) and measures 1-1/2" square. Any "yellow/gold" color is the metal that will protrude. This design was created by Randy Shiroma of Aloha Marketing International. He also designed the Pali Lions Club pin and several elements on the District 50 website.

Quite a bit of thought went into the design work and the key points were; 1) exclusive to Hawaii, 2) website address, 3) Lions element, 4) some sort of "tech" displayed, and 5) "shock". The ERUPTING volcano was chosen because the D50 Webmaster got tired of looking at the same ol', same ol' Diamond Head vignette. If you search the web for "Lion Club Pin" (Google, Yahoo, etc.), you won't find anything like this. The overall design is distinctly unique and will make an AWESOME showcase pin. A little Hawaiiana has been added. "Na Maka O Liona" (The Eyes of the Lion - suggested by Lion Daryl Matsuo), is synonymous to the cause behind the pin.

I've Submitted Content, Where Do I Stand?

Here is the scoreboard of everything that may have come the D50 Webmaster's way

How Valuable is THIS Pin?

Certainly, those awarded the pin, took pride in what they do and how they have promoted Lionism. Wear it proudly! Collecting a pin is a very interesting hobby, it gives us pleasure, and a sense of collective belonging. A true collector will respect the perceived value. What that value is can be determined by the number of units issued. In the case of the "Na Maka 'o Liona", 200 units. A rarity when compared to 1.5 million Lions members Internationally. Granted that only Hawaii Lions can be awarded this pin, it will be the most sought after in pin trading venues and conventions.

So then, what is the value? Let's break it down. Consider that you need 35 points and every point that is earned requires 1-2 hours of work. For the sake of easy math, we'll use 1 hour. Now the next thing to factor in is how much that hour is worth. As a reference, minimum wage in Hawaii is $7.25/hour. Generally, the lowballing age of a Hawaii Lion is 40 years and for that person living in 2007, the annual personal income is $39,000 (/52 weeks /40 hours per week = $18.75/hour). Using the following:

Based on Minimum Wage
Based on Hawaii 2007 annual income of $39,000
35 hours x $7.25 = $253.75
35 hours x $18.75 = $656.25

That is just for the person submitting the information. You'll still have to add on the District 50 Webmaster's labor, which is $75/hour. On an average, for every 1 point, it takes approximately 15 minutes of labor to add the content on the http://www.hawaiilions.org website. 35 points x .25 hours x $75/hour = $656.25

By adding what the contributor has submitted to that of the District 50 Webmaster, we have the follow perceived value of the Na Maka 'o Liona pin:

LOW: $910 - HIGH: $1312.50

Should you have THIS pin, you now have the information for reference when you show off your prize, to keep or trade.
